The Restrainer

There is a mysterious "force" alluded to in the Scriptures which is responsible for preventing the coming at any time on the scene of earth's history the appearance of the final Antichrist or consummate false Messiah. Something prevents the ultimate Antichrist from appearing at any moment on the world's scene. This mysterious force or power has, on the basis of Scripture, been called the "Restrainer."

Various theories about who or what the Restrainer is have appeared during the centuries of church history. A currently popular theory is that the "Restrainer" is the Holy Spirit.

There have been numerous theories over the centuries which have tried to explain just exactly "what" the Restrainer is, or "who" the Restrainer is.
